QUOTES AND AFFIRMATIONS FROM THE
NORTH HOLLYWOOD CHURCH OF RELIGIOUS SCIENCE

Ernest Holmes:

  1. Never limit your view of life by any past experience.
  2. Spirituality is natural goodness.  God is not a person; God is a presence personified in us.  Spirituality is not a thing; it is the atmosphere of God’s Presence, goodness, truth, and beauty.
  3. I am guided by the same intelligence and inspired by the same imagination which scatters the moon beams across the waves and holds the forces of nature in it’s grasp.
  4. We are not depending on a reed shaken by the wind, but on the Principle of Life Itself, for all that we have or ever shall need.  It is not some Power, or a great Power, it is All Power.
  5. If you wish to know the truth about your business or your profession, know that it is an activity of good. It is an activity of your partnership with the infinite.
  6. Love is within us. It cannot be destroyed. It can be ignored. To the extent that we abandon love we will feel it has abandoned us.  Denying love is our only problem, and embracing it is the only answer.  Through the power of love, we can let go of past history and begin again.  Love heals, forgives, and makes whole.
  7. Since the only life you can have is the life of the Spirit within you, you need but permit Its radiance to flow through your thought into self-expression. You are surrounded by a dynamic force, a great surge of living power. You are immersed in and saturated with the vital essence of Life. Its presence permeates everything, binding all together in one complete whole.
  8. We have within us, a power that is greater than anything we shall ever contact in the outer, a power that can overcome every obstacle in our life and set us safe, satisfied and at peace, healed and prosperous, in a new light, and in a new life.
  9. Life is a mirror and will reflect back to the thinker what he thinks into it.
  10. But we are born to be happy, to be abundantly supplied with every good thing, to have fun in living, to consciously unite with the Divine Power that is around us and within us, and to grow and expand forever.
  11. You have discovered the spiritual universe. Many others have discovered this same world, but each must make the discovery for himself. You are going to have a lot of joy sailing around this world of yours. Don’t fight the opinions of others, or waste your time arguing over these things. Follow the inward gleam of your consciousness and you will arrive.
  12. Spirituality is natural goodness. God is not a person; God is a presence personified in us. Spirituality is not a thing; it is the atmosphere of God’s Presence, goodness, truth, and beauty.
  13. The mind is a magnet and we attract that with which we identify the self. In order to get the most out of life we must learn consciously to change many of our habitual thought patterns. This is not easy, for our old thought patterns cling to us with great tenacity, but, being thought patterns, they can be reversed. If you are filled with fear, refill yourself with faith, for faith always overcomes fear.
  14. Just what is meant by ‘your word?’ It means your conscious intention, your conscious direction, your conscious faith and acceptance that, because of what you are doing, the Power of Spirit will flow through your word in the direction you give It.
  15. Believe as though you are, and you will be…
  16. The person who is to succeed will never let his mind dwell on past mistakes. He will forgive the past in his life and in the lives of other people. If he makes a mistake he will at once forgive it.
  17. Life is ever giving of Itself. We must receive, utilize and extend the gift. Success and prosperity are spiritual attributes belonging to all people.
  18. Instead of dwelling on negative thoughts, cause your mind to dwell on peace and joy.
  19. Nature will not let us stay in any one place for too long. She will let us stay just long enough to gather the experience necessary to the unfolding and advancement of the soul. This is a wise provision, for should we stay there too long, we would become too set, too rigid, too inflexible. Nature demands change in order that we may advance.
  20. The universal Mind contains all knowledge. It is the potential ultimate of all things. To it, all things are possible.

Emma Curtis Hopkins:

  1. You must be sure that whatever health is brought to mankind it all comes from God.
  2. Let me tell you the twelve effects of thinking of the Spirit: You will have life, health, strength, support, defense, thinking faculty, wise speech, ability to record well your ideas, joyous song, skill in carrying out your principles, beauty of judgment, and great love.
  3. To say that ‘My Good is supply, God is my Good, therefore God is my supply’ is to stir the mountains and the seas to bring us our new provisions.
  4. When we know God, we have touched the very substance which can inform us how to work each minute wisely, so as to be clothed and fed and housed and healed, without any other process than simply knowing God.
  5. There is a self-supporting power in the Holy Spirit which, when you let it operate unhindered through you, leads straight to your substantial support.
  6. Always high vision stirs right speech, silent or audible, and right speech silent or audible stirs right convictions, and the accomplishment of the seemingly impossible is the outcome.
  7. The soft flakes of healing are falling all around you all the time, even on your shadow.
  8. There is no warfare where the vision of God is. There is no disease where the healing Name is called. There is no inadequacy or failure while the Spirit of God is in the nostrils, inbreathed as the only breath. This is living truth.
  9. The man who molds the vital ethers of omnipresence by right thoughts about its bounty brings forth bountifully.
  10. Give glad, joyous praises every night, before going to sleep, to the Most High Good, that the Holy spirit fills your thoughts with ardor, and fires your affairs to splendid achievements.

Thomas Troward:

  1. God will provide the food, but he will not cook the dinner.
  2. The action of Mind (thought) plants that nucleus which, if allowed to grow undisturbed, will eventually attract to itself all the conditions necessary for its manifestation in outward visible form.
  3. The secret to enjoying life is to take an interest in it.
  4. The subjective mind is entirely under the control of the objective mind. With the utmost fidelity it reproduces and works out to its final consequences whatever the objective mind impresses upon it.
  5. Creative power is that receptive attitude of expectancy which makes a mold into which the plastic yet undifferentiated substance can flow and take the desired form.

Ralph Waldo Emerson:

  1. Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could; some blunders and absurdities have crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; you shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.
  2. All life is an experiment. The more experiments you make the better.
  3. The only way to have a friend is to be one.
  4. The reward of a thing well done, is to have done it.
  5. Hitch your wagon to a star.
  6. What lies behind us and what lies before us are small matters compared to what lies within us.
  7. Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.
  8. That which we persist in doing becomes easier for us to do; not that the nature of the thing itself is changed, but that our power to do is increased.
  9. When Nature has work to be done, she creates a genius to do it.
  10. I didn’t find my friends; the good Lord gave them to me.

Emmet Fox:

  1. A sufficient realization of love will dissolve it all. If only you could love enough you would be the happiest and most powerful being in the world.
  2. What you think upon grows. Whatever you allow to occupy your mind you magnify in your life. Whether the subject of your thought be good or bad, the law works and the condition grows. Any subject that you keep out of your mind tends to diminish in your life, because what you do not use atrophies. The more you think of grievances, the more such trials you will continue to receive; the more you think of the good fortune you have had, the more good fortune will come to you.
  3. There is no difficulty that enough LOVE will not conquer, no disease that enough LOVE will not heal, no door that enough LOVE will not open, no gulf that enough LOVE will not bridge, no wall that enough LOVE will not throw down, no sin that enough LOVE will not redeem…
  4. You are not happy because you are well. You are well because you are happy. You are not depressed because trouble has come to you, but trouble has come to you because you are depressed. You can change your thoughts and feelings, and then the outer things will come to correspond, and indeed there is no other way of working.
  5. God is bigger than any problem. God in you is greater than any difficulty you have to meet. God cares for you more than it is possible for any human being to realize. God can help you in proportion to the degree in which you worship him. You worship God by really putting your trust in him instead of in outer conditions, or in fear, or in depression, or in seeming dangers, and so forth. You worship God by recognizing his presence everywhere, in all people and conditions that you meet; and by praying regularly. You pray well when you pray with joy.
  6. Nature always takes you at your own valuation. Believe you are the child of God-really believe it. Believe that you express Divine Life, Divine Truth, and Divine Love. Believe that Divine Wisdom guides you. Believe that God is your supply. Believe that God is helping and blessing humanity through you. Believe that you are a special enterprise on the part of God and that he is opening your way-and what you really believe, that you will demonstrate.
  7. It is the food which you furnish to your mind that determines the whole character of your life.
  8. There is a place for analysis, but it is apt to be quite fatal in prayer and meditation. Do not dissect the love of God, but feel it. Do not dissect divine intelligence, but realize it. Do not wonder how God can possibly solve this problem, but just watch Him do it in His own way-and He will if you will give Him a chance. You know that God is Love. So go ahead on that, and do not get theoretical about it.
  9. If you seem to yourself to be lacking in certain necessary qualities, if your character seems to lack strength, ask God to give you what you need – and He will. You can build any quality into your mentality by meditating upon that quality every day.
  10. I send out thoughts of love and peace and healing to the whole universe: to all trees and plants and growing things, to all beasts and birds and fishes, and to every man, woman and child on earth, without any distinction.

Charles Fillmore:

  1. The value of all service lies in the spirit in which you serve and not in the importance or magnitude of the service. Even the lowliest task or deed is made holy, joyous, and prosperous when it is filled with love.
  2. t is necessary to give freely if we are to receive freely. The law of receiving includes giving. The knowledge that substance is omnipresent and that people cannot, therefore, impoverish themselves by giving (but rather will increase their supply) will enable us to give freely and cheerfully.
  3. All causes are essentially mental, and whosoever comes into daily contact with a high order of thinking must take on some of it.
  4. The spiritual substance from which comes all
  5. Visible wealth is never depleted. It is right with you all the time and responds to your faith in it and your demands on it.
  6. We shall serve for the joy of serving, prosperity shall flow to us and through us in unending streams of plenty.
  7. The mind of the spirit will guide you in perfect ways, even in the minute details of your life, if you will let it do so.
  8. Here is a mental treatment guaranteed to cure every ill that flesh is heir to: sit for half an hour every night and mentally forgive everyone against whom you have any ill will or antipathy.
  9. It is the law of Spirit that we must be that which we would draw to us. If we would draw to us love, we must be love, be loving and kind; if we would have peace and harmony in our environment, we must establish it within ourselves.
  10. The one and only formative power given to man is thought. By his thinking he not only makes character, but body and affairs, for “as he thinketh within himself, so is he.”

Raymond Charles Barker:

  1. No one can love you until you love yourself, and you cannot love anyone else, until you love yourself.
  2. The decision to let go of that which has completed its course in your experience is even more important than the decision to welcome new ideas. You cannot walk forward by looking backward.
  3. Prosperity is the ability to do what you want to do at the instant you want to do it.
  4. The principle of life is that life responds by corresponding; your life becomes the thing you have decided it shall be.
  5. Nothing is true unless it works. And it has to work for you, not for someone else.
  6. This present universe is the Kingdom of Heaven, and all we do is to clear away our misconception of it until we see It as It really is.
  7. Any wrong decision you have ever made will become unimportant when your attention has shifted from it to a creative reason for living right here and now.
  8. Never place a time limit on the healing. That is dictating to the spiritual intelligence that does its perfect work when it is not impeded by your questions and false beliefs.
